Breaking news in the world of street photography. A street photographer has made the news. For doing street photography. In Canada. Maybe I don’t need to say more than that. A young reporter discovered that street photography exists, and the CBC decided Canada needed an article about it. Slow news days, what with the inauguration…

This is a story about the absolute power of YouTube. When this channel first started, I told a story about a disc camera and hashtagged it Ritz Camera, because in the very early 1980s I worked at the Ritz Camera in Falls Church, Virginia. Somebody out there searched that hashtag, found my video, and realized,…

I always appreciate when there is justice in the world. Especially in the world of photography. Des Moines, Iowa. A photographer named Jeffrey Gray, 62 years old, ran a studio where young girls came in for cheerleading and pageant photos, headshots, modeling portfolios. And he was taping them without consent while they changed. Girls as…

A photographic conundrum for the comments. If you’re on this channel, you’re probably a street photographer, and you’ve heard the ethics questions. Is it ethical to photograph someone who isn’t expecting it? I know the law. In public, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, and I agree with it, or I wouldn’t be out…

When you do your night photography, is it at night? Nine, ten o’clock? My night photography happens at 3:30 in the morning. Do you credit the photographer who strapped the camera to the tree, or the tree? Nonetheless. Cool photos. I’ve always wanted…

Is there a photo you would give your life to take? A guy died about six years ago at a rally car event. You’ve seen rally. Cars spinning wildly off the road, flipping, taking people with them. I wouldn’t stand in the same county. This man crawled into a restricted area, signed a waiver to…

Happy holidays, everybody. Family was in town, and like a lot of you, all I wanted for Christmas was to get out and shoot. So I did what any of us would do. The mall. December 23rd and 24th. Prime street photography conditions. This video goes back through the take and explains the why behind…

As we wrap up 2024, a thank you. When I started this goofy little channel, I had no idea how much fun it would be. Not just getting back out and taking pictures again like I used to, but making these videos and sharing them with you. We’re getting close to a thousand subscribers, not…
