Breaking news in the world of street photography. A street photographer has made the news. For doing street photography. In Canada. Maybe I don’t need to say more than that.
A young reporter discovered that street photography exists, and the CBC decided Canada needed an article about it. Slow news days, what with the inauguration down here and Canada wondering what’s next for them, but still. Street photographer does street photography. Film at eleven.
It’s precious, honestly. It’s like watching Gen Z try to figure out what planet a rotary phone came from.
The photos are basic street photography, fine work, but there is one white whale in the set. A pay phone picture. Someone actually using a pay phone, which we don’t have in America anymore. Catching that in the wild should win whatever Canada’s version of a Pulitzer is. Print the legend.
The funny thing is the article treats this like a new discovery. Street photography was a thing from the 20s to the 80s, then it went quiet, and now a reporter is announcing it like it just landed. Welcome back, I guess.
