When you do your night photography, is it at night? Nine, ten o’clock?
My night photography happens at 3:30 in the morning. My everyday life starts at 3:15, 3:30 in the morning, so even on weekends, even on vacation, that’s when I’m awake. That’s my night.
I just got back from Turin, Italy. Torino. And I want to share these shots, including one encounter that got a little dicey. A few guys who’d had too much to drink decided they wanted to see my camera. “See camera, see camera,” about the only English they had. I said no, no, no, but I’ll take your picture. Luckily it turned out better than it could have at 3:30 in the morning in a foreign city.
The light at that hour is just amazing. The glow. A diffusion filter on the front of the lens. Colors bright enough that you can play with ISO and keep the noise down.
Travel does that too. A new location makes you inspired in a way your hometown doesn’t. Everything is worth shooting at 3:30 in the morning in Torino.
