Why CCD Cameras Still Matter in 2026

Old CCD cameras. Still worth it in 2026? I say yes, and here is my top-five case.

One: the color. CCD rendering looks like slide film. It is nothing like the homogenized CMOS look everything has now.

Two: the files. CCD files are “great in 2026 and sometimes even better than a CMOS sensor camera.” Nobody told the old sensors they expired.

Three: the price. A Nikon D80 or D200 costs so little now that you basically cannot lose money on one.

Four: “the ultimate beater body.” Buy it cheap, keep it forever, use it without worry. Rain? Dust? Who cares, it cost less than a nice dinner.

Five: the fun. Shooting a CCD camera in 2026 feels like a small rebellion against the spec sheet wars.

The vintage digital revival is real. Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Pentax, Kodak… they all made CCD gems. Go find yours.
