Ricoh GRIV: Is It Enough of an Upgrade From the GRIII?

The GR IV reviews are coming out, and as a long-term GR IIIx shooter, let me save you some money.

The GR IIIx is still a great camera. You can pick one up for under $1,000. I love mine so much I bought a second one used for about $400. For a $1,200 camera, that is a steal.

Is the GR IV better? Probably, a little. “It’s not enough of an incremental update … to justify the cost.” Not for me.

And to the commenters saying “you haven’t had one, so you don’t know”: “Sometimes good enough is good enough.” The GR IIIx gets every shot you need and costs $300 to $800 less than a new GR IV.

Now, the GR IV X with the 40mm field of view? That might be the one to wait for. We will see.

Other reviewers are starting to agree with my original take. You don’t always need the newest camera. Sometimes you just need the camera you already love.
