Half frame digital was probably inevitable. Half frame and I go way back. This is the original Olympus Pen FT. My father bought it in 1967.
Here is the thing nobody mentions. The problem with half frame film is the same problem half frame digital will have. Seventy-two shots on a 36 exposure roll took months to slog through, unless you were shooting an event. And half a 35mm negative meant pronounced grain and image quality that was never great unless you used really slow film.
The Fujifilm X-Half takes that deal and makes it digital. Half an APS-C sensor’s worth of real estate, the 1-inch sensor you know from the Sony RX100 line. Good sensor. In a camera smaller than the already tiny X-M5.
Hold it like this for landscape. Like this for portrait. Rinky dink and proud of it. If diptych photography is your thing, this might be your camera. If image quality is your thing, do the math on the word half.
