Is Pre-Capture Really Tech We NEED As Photographers?

“Pre-capture. That’s right, I said it.”

The feature buffers images continuously so it can save frames from before you fully pressed the shutter. Missed the moment? No you didn’t. The camera caught it for you.

For action and wildlife, it is a lifesaver. I will give it that.

But here is what bothers me. Pre-capture exists because camera companies no longer trust us to press the button at the right time. Read that again. The machine has to save us from ourselves.

“The decisive moment is dead because now we can’t even be trusted.” Henri Cartier-Bresson is up there going, WTF, precapture?

Technology is taking over our instincts, and it is killing real photographic skill one buffer at a time.

I have a full-length video with the complete breakdown. Watch it, then tell me I am wrong. You won’t.
