Here is how to fix an out-of-focus photo. You can’t.
Well, AI can “fix” it. But all AI does is invent details that were never there and paint them over your blur. That is not fixing. That is replacing.
It used to be simple: missed focus meant a missed shot. Now a sharp portrait might be a real face or Photoshop’s Neural Filter. A wildlife photographer’s perfect frame might be patience and skill, or AI denoising hallucinating what might have been there.
This is not about AI being bad. It is about knowing what is real and what got rebuilt. A photograph is supposed to be a record of something that actually happened.
So here is the question that matters: “When AI sharpens your photo, is it still your photograph?”
How much reconstruction is allowed before a photograph stops being a photograph? I do not have the answer. But I know the question is not going away.
