I said recently that the photo contest is dead. Oh, there will still be contests. But if you cannot tell a real photo from an AI photo, what stops somebody from entering AI work and winning?
Then I ran an experiment. Took a landscape photo, fed AI one prompt. “Move me 50 yards to the left.” That is all. And it built a brand new photo, indistinguishable from the original. Then I added a rowboat, just to see if I could. Prompt in, boat appears.
If I submitted that to a competition, how would they know? Honestly. How?
Photo contests are dead, because most other photographic institutions are dying quickly. Why would the contest be the one thing that survives?
