This is my 100th video. And after 99 videos, I can tell you exactly what I have learned about being a YouTuber.
Absolutely nothing.
I am not going to sell you some course on how to get 80,000 subscribers in a week. That is pure nonsense. I am sitting here proud of about a thousand subscribers and I earned every one of them by having a good time.
The algorithm has boggled minds way smarter than mine. Here is my philosophy, and you can take it or leave it: I am not here for you. I am here for me. I have been shooting since I was nine. I have been through hundreds of cameras. I sold most of them. I photograph people. I collect cameras. I love photography news. This channel was just something to do, and I have had a blast doing it.
A successful channel is a lot like winning the lottery. Good videos help. High production value helps. I obviously do not care about production value. I am just a dude with a camera, out shooting, having a good time, using it as exercise. Six to ten thousand steps on a hometown walk. That is the whole production budget.
It is called YouTube. It is not called y’all’s tube. None of it matters if you are having fun. Trying to make a living at it is a crapshoot, like getting discovered for the movies.
Video 101 is going to break the internet. Because I have figured out nothing.
