“Negative comments DO hurt. They’re supposed to.”
Every creator guru tells you to ignore the negativity. I am telling you the opposite. It hurts because you care about your photography, about your art. That is normal. I have never forgotten the worst things people have said about me in my career. Not one.
So do not pretend it does not matter. Let it push you forward instead. “The sting reminds you that what you’re doing actually matters to you.”
And here is the bonus nobody mentions: over time, the negativity makes you appreciate your real supporters even more. The people who show up, who get it, who keep watching.
Photographers are sensitive. Good. That sensitivity is what makes the work worth making.
Now go make something worth commenting on.
