Sometimes it is fun to just be jealous of other photographers. Today we are looking at the International Landscape Photographer of the Year winners, and there is some ridiculous work in here.
The fireflies in the mountains of Wufeng, Taiwan, shot by Shirley Wong, won a special award. And here is what kills me. I live in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Elkmont has synchronized fireflies every year. I still have not photographed them. Shirley Wong flew to Taiwan. I need to get my act together.
There is a tornado photo in the mix. The photographer, Thomas Heaton, was giddy chasing it on his YouTube channel, and I am not going to lie, that was a little disconcerting to watch. Tornadoes kill people. I left him a comment about it.
Second place went to Ignacio Palacios for a shot of the Yala Yanka Gala Canyon in Turkmenistan. Northern lights over Riisitunturi National Park in Finland by Leonardo Papera. Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites, titled Spiritual Grip. The highlands of Iceland by Jobby Sands, and the shapes and colors and shadowing in that one are just unreal. A Sweden shot by Gunnar Stru. Something called Natural Art off the south coast of Iceland. Dancing Trees in Indonesia by Laura Bennett, and the patience in that composition, waiting for the water to go still, that is the whole game right there.
Third place, an early autumn shot by George Popa. The Fagaras mountains in Romania. A black and white by Vlad Plette. Desert Veins from Namibia.
I am really good at this video stuff, are I not. Stumbling through everybody’s names like I have never read out loud before.
No gear talk today. No settings. Just great photos by people who went places. Sometimes it is fun to live vicariously through other people’s travel.
F8 and be there. Let’s go.
