Bold statement. If you are taking your film scans into Lightroom and cranking the saturation and denoising the grain, you are defeating the purpose of shooting film. Change the color and the grain and you did not shoot film. You manufactured a digital product.
Now let me talk myself out of my own argument, because I am on the fence and I can feel it.
Highlights and shadows, fine. Film has limited dynamic range, we all know it, and in the darkroom we dodged and burned. I fixed exposure problems with my hands. But we never messed with color, and we could not do a thing about grain. That was the deal you made with the film.
On the other hand, I shoot Fujifilm film simulations and happily manipulate those colors, and they are literally digital film. So. Where is the line?
I am genuinely asking. Comments. Settle it.
