What’s up, Fujifilm fanboys. You clicked because of the X-E5, so let’s talk about the X-E5. Fujifilm announced it with a very retro video, leaning hard on the idea that the X-E line is a classic now.
First thoughts. First and foremost, the damn price. With the kit lens you are at roughly $1,900 plus tax. In my state, 9.25 percent. Call it two grand out the door, for a camera kitted with an f/2.8 lens that will be compared, immediately and forever, to the X100VI and its f/2. And you will see that difference.
No sign of a built-in ND filter, which the X100 has and this apparently does not. It does get in-body stabilization this time, unlike the X-E4, which helps at low shutter speeds. The kit lens alone will run about $500 if you buy it separately, and inspiring is not the word I would use for it yet. We’ll see.
Fuji is leaning into retro and analog harder than ever. The question is whether the price leans back. First thoughts only. The hands-on will tell the story.
