Canon R8’s Hidden Superpower: No Joystick Needed!

I may have played myself.

I have gone on and on on this channel about long lens street photography. Don’t have to get close to people. Capture more moments, because capturing moments is what street photography is.

Then I bought the Canon R8 with a 35mm lens. And today, walking up on people to get close enough for a 35, I felt something I have never felt. Nervous. I have never lost my nerve about this. Ever. Today I lost a little of it.

So instead of people, we are checking color pops, shadow and light, dynamic range and color science around town, while I decide whether I have the nerve for this lens. The R8 feels great in the hand, which means the actual fix is obvious.

I’m going to have to buy a long lens for it. Obviously.
