I have done it. I am fairly certain I have created the worst comparison video in the history of gear comparison videos on YouTube.
Film sims versus film recipes. At the edit, watching the results play out, I thought, I should disclaim this thing right off the start. The recipes and the sims weren’t that different. Someone commented I should have done side by sides, and they were right. There are a couple of photos where you can see what a recipe adds on top of the sim. Generally speaking? Not a lot. Zoom in and all you’re getting is more grain.
Which raises the honest question. We shot film. We have all this technology now, all these great cameras. Why do we want worse photos? Nostalgia, fine. But worse?
So the video sucks. Plain and simple. I probably should take it down, but they say don’t. This is either an apology or a warning label. Either way, I’m the one who made it, so I’ll be the one who says it first.
