This is a rant, and I predict profanity, so consider yourself warned.
Somebody posted this question. What is a profession that was once highly respected but is now a complete joke? And the answer given was wedding photographers. The quote says they went from preservers of authentic joyful moments to content creators manufacturing those moments for likes, clicks, and bride influencers.
Let me respond on behalf of every wedding photographer I know. If the photographer is giving the client what the client wants, who are you to call it a joke? The trend is Instagram-style photography because brides want Instagram-style photography. Don’t give it to them and they’ll review you into the ground online. You make content to show other brides what you can do. That’s not selling out. That’s marketing. That’s how you get the next booking.
And the money? I know what wedding photographers are getting paid now, and it ain’t what it should be for the hours, the pressure, and the liability of the biggest day of someone’s life.
Shut up on Reddit. Shut up on Instagram. Quit complaining until you can do it yourself. Shut up.
