Photography news of the week, and I need help understanding it.
This photographer, known around the Mount Airy area for shooting public events, has been accused of felony peeping. Not for the camera in his hand. The photo of him is actually a pretty good street photo, complimentary colors and all. The problem is the camera hidden in his bag, aimed up at women in skirts.
So I am asking, genuinely. What is the thrill of the upskirt photo? I’m a red-blooded American male, squarely in this guy’s demographic, and I do not understand it. There’s better everything on the internet, free, legal, consensual. Is it the getting away with it? Can you sell it? Is that the market?
Somebody explain the economics or the psychology, because from here it looks like a felony, a destroyed reputation, and a ruined life, traded for something worthless.
There’s a line in this hobby and it’s not a subtle one. Street photography is public life, documented. This is a crime with a camera as the weapon. Don’t confuse the two, and don’t let anyone who does hide behind the rest of us.
