"Just wipe it with a microfiber cloth," is what the guy at my camera store told me. I have wiped this with a microfiber cloth. It does no good.
If you're considering buying any of the Sony RX100 series, and they are amazing cameras, big sensor, great autofocus, a lot of fun to shoot, kind of pocketable (and we'll get into that pocketable stuff later), know this. This is a known issue.
What you're seeing is separation from inside, behind the glass. Not an external problem. It doesn't affect picture taking. It doesn't affect anything. It just doesn't look great when the camera is turned off.
So don't panic if yours looks like this, and don't let a seller tell you it's a smudge. It's not a smudge. It's the camera, and now you know.
