Gear nerd question of the day, and I genuinely do not know the answer.
My Sony a6700 has an APS-C sensor. The 16-50mm kit zoom is attached. I zoom the lens on camera and the display reads 16mm at the wide end, 50mm at the long end.
But the camera KNOWS it has a crop sensor. It KNOWS which lens is attached. “Why in the world is it giving me the 16 to 50 and not the 24 to 75?” That is the 1.5x full-frame equivalent, and the camera could do that math in its sleep.
“It’s a rhetorical question, but if you have an answer for it, I mean, that’d be great.”
Do all zoom lenses do this? Somebody explain it to me like I am five. Comments are open.
