There Is No Such Thing as a “Beginner Camera”

If you are a photography YouTuber and you call a camera a beginner camera, you are part of the marketing. You are not part of the photography.

Here is what that label does. It tells somebody their camera is not good enough to take them to the next level, so they buy the starter, then they buy the upgrade. That is the whole business model.

Every camera is a beginner camera. Does it have auto mode? Does it have eye AF that tracks birds at 300 miles an hour? Funny how the pros need all that help and still call the other camera the beginner one.

They called my Canon R8 a beginner full-frame camera. It has the same sensor as the R6 Mark II. It just has fewer bells and whistles, which means you have to know MORE to shoot it, not less.

Even the Leica M6 has metering. It helps you with exposure. Beginner camera, right?

Every camera is a beginner camera, or no camera is. Take your pick. You cannot have both. Have a nice day.
