I have incredible news. Fujifilm has officially announced the X100 Medium Format, with a release date and everything. This is a completely real camera that definitely exists and is not something I dreamed up because I wanted it to exist.
Alright, alright. It is a joke. But let us talk about why the joke works. The X100 series is beloved because it is the perfect street camera: small, quiet, gorgeous files, film simulations that make JPEG shooters like me very happy. Now imagine all of that with a medium format sensor. Go ahead, imagine it. I will wait.
This is what camera nerds do for fun. We invent the camera we wish existed and then get genuinely emotional about it. I am as guilty as anyone. The X100 medium format lives in my head rent free, right next to the digital XPan and the affordable Leica.
Watch the video for the full “announcement.” And Fujifilm, if you are watching: I was kidding, but I was also not kidding. Call me.
