An A.I. Prompt is Cliff’s Notes | True Creativity is Doing The Work | Calmer Rant!

I have calmed down since the last video. Mostly.

A commenter asked a fair question. I made a typing gesture and said prompting is not creative, and he asked, are writers never creative? Bestselling authors type too. Was I insulting an entire creative process?

Here is my answer, at normal volume. A prompt is the Cliff’s Notes before the novel. It is the summary of the thing, not the thing. When I talk about creating, I mean the cinematography, the videography, the photography. Capturing light and color and composition yourself and turning it into something people want to watch.

Prompting is not directing. It is handing the directing to something else.

Writers type words and the words are the work. A prompter types words and the work happens somewhere else, by something else. That is the whole difference, and I don’t think it insults anybody to say it out loud.
