I can't begin to tell you what sent me down the Kodak Disc camera rabbit hole last night, but it reminded me of a funny story from my Ritz Camera days, early 1980s, Falls Church location, Seven Corners, Virginia. Any Ritz Camera alumni out there, speak up in the comments. Where are you now?
The disc camera. Tiniest film that could be made. Smallest little negative. Worst prints. And I remember selling one to a guy who said he wanted great photos. I tried to sell him a Canon AE-1 Program. He said no. I want the disc camera. I'm going on vacation to Africa, I want to get some good shots. I said, sir. I tried.
He came back, brought his film in, got the pictures back a couple of days later, and stood right there in the store getting madder and madder. Grainy. Horrible. Everything I said would happen, in his hands, in an envelope.
And he slammed that Kodak Disc camera down on the counter and said, I don't want it anymore. You can have it.
Somewhere in one of these boxes in my house, I have that disc camera. The one that got slapped down on the counter at Ritz Camera Centers. He had to know.
Come on, dude. You had to know.
