I’ve owned three or four X100 cameras, including the VI, and every single one has shipped with a feature I have never used. Not once. It’s in the menu, it has a page in the manual, and it might as well be a rumor.
Fujifilm keeps adding things because new has to mean more. But cameras aren’t phones. Nobody bought an X100 for the feature list. They bought it because it’s small, it’s quiet, it looks like a camera from a better era, and the JPEGs are lovely.
Here’s my hot take: Fujifilm should be braver about subtraction. Every unused feature is menu clutter between me and the photo. I’d trade five features I’ve never touched for one dial that does exactly what I want.
Should they drop the forgotten feature? Probably. Will they? Of course not. Next year’s model will have two forgotten features. Progress.
