Complete Hypocrite Buys Ricoh GR III: First Impressions and Accessories

Less than a week ago I made a video explaining exactly why I was saying no to the Ricoh GR III. Sound reasons. Principled reasons. And then I bought one.

So yes, I am a complete hypocrite. Let us get that out of the way. GAS is a hell of a drug, and resistance was futile.

First impressions. It is absurdly small, which is the whole point. It disappears into a jacket pocket, which means it actually comes with me, which means it gets used. The lens is excellent. Snap focus is as good as everyone says. It feels like a camera designed by people who actually shoot on the street.

The dust issue is real, or at least real enough that everyone mentions it. I will keep it in a case and try not to think about it. Denial is also a hell of a drug.

Accessories? Keep it minimal. A case, a spare battery, maybe a thumb grip. The moment you start accessorizing a pocket camera like it is a cinema rig, you have missed the point.

Do as I say, not as I do. Or do as I do. I am not your dad.
