I joke about Gear Acquisition Syndrome a lot on this channel. The buying, the needing, the new camera itch. I want to explain where it actually comes from, because maybe it sounds familiar.
When I was a kid, we did not have anything. My family could not afford much. And because of that, the things I did get, new or not, I absolutely cherished. To this day I have trouble throwing away a pen, because I used to be mindful of every bit of ink. A new pair of shoes would sit on the pillow next to me at night so I could look at them.
For a very long time, buying things was filling a hole. A big one.
I am in a different place now. I have made money, I can buy what I want, and I would say half of what I buy is still that kid. The other half is a hole that got filled with love, starting with my wife.
The GAS is a joke on this channel. The reason behind it is not.
