Some news from the photography world, and it is not fun news.
Sally Mann, a photographer of real renown, Time’s photographer of the year once upon a time, is under investigation in Texas. Photos in an exhibit, including images of her own children in various stages of undress, have been confiscated by authorities.
I don’t know what world Sally Mann lives in. In my world, there is no version of events where I share images of my children undressed. Not online, not in an exhibit, not anywhere. I am not sure I would even take them, in the world we live in now.
And I know I am preaching to the choir here, but it needs saying. Any picture of a child can be exploited by the people who exploit children. Yes, even the cute one of your kid in the tub that you swear you will never share. Where does it live? Google Photos? iCloud? You think that is safe? You think there is no bot, no troll, no criminal who has figured out a way in?
Stop taking pictures of your children that you would not want the worst person alive to see. Because that is who is looking for them.
